Dachshund for Sale

Prior to making a final decision on purchasing a purebred Dachshund for sale, learn much on the breed to make sure that this breed will suit your lifestyle. To determine if you are really a Dachshund person, read everything you can find on typical Dachshund personality. Usually, the temperament and activity level of the breed depends on its original task. Dachshunds were developed for hunting fierce badgers and other vermin in their underground dens. So, they have to be strong, courageous, intelligent, and independent. Though today, Dachshund dogs are kept mostly as pets, some bloodlines are still bred for hunting. When choosing a dog, ask the breeder about the general purpose of the litter and typical characteristics of the bloodline.

Well-trained Dachshund dogs are good problem-solvers, but poorly trained and unsocialized Dachshunds are trouble makers. Prior to obtaining a Dachshund puppy, evaluate your ability to train and socialize a puppy. Novice dog owners will find it difficult to deal with a Dachshund puppy. If you are not sure you can control and bring up a puppy, buy or adopt an adult Dachshund.

Dogs of this breed need much time, attention, care, and financial resources to be healthy and happy. Reputable breeders offer high quality dogs and puppies. If you cannot afford a Dachshund for sale from a good kennel, don’t buy it from a pet store or puppy mill, but try to find an adult Dachshund in a rescue. Pet stores provide no guarantee for their puppies. Though with a second-hand dog you have no guarantee either, but when you adopt an adult dog, you can evaluate its personality and health.

Dachshund dogs retain their activity level well into their teens and have a typical life expectancy of about 15 years. A Dachshund should not be left alone for a long time, as it’s prone to separation anxiety and developing bad habits. This breed is not good for small children. Some Dachshund dogs react negatively to children, because they see them as competitors. Dachshund dogs will suit well active families with elderly children. A Dachshund for sale should not be obtained as a present for a child.
